Episode 8. Rufina: atention and detail
María Rufina Perera combines her work as a cook with the management of a family clothes and accessories company, GP Modas, , in the centre of Arucas. With an enormous capacity for sacrifice, Rufina started working in an events company in 2011, where she learned from great gastronomy professionals, until years later she became head of the kitchen of the first rural hotel in Arucas, La Hacienda del Buen Suceso, , a point of reference for tourism in Gran Canaria since 1999.
Rufina is very well aware of the charm of La Hacienda del Buen Suceso, the oldest in the Canary Islands, surrounded by a sea of banana trees that makes the traveller's stay an idyllic experience, where the environment, the service and the typical Canarian gastronomy are the protagonists..
“El Jardín de la Marquesa is one of my favourite places in Arucas, because it is beautiful and because it is where I started working in this profession as a kitchen assistant at events. Imagine that you are working and you can hear a turkey, you hear the birds, and you are there working, but you feel very contented’.
Rufina's professional experience has always been linked to customer service and an excellent manner, something that has been fundamental in the development of her career as a cook, a trade she learned from some great professionals who crossed her path. Today, she is in charge of designing and creating a gastronomic offer associated with local cuisine, with products such as bananas, with which she makes her famous chocolate muffins, which are very popular with customers and her colleagues.
The success of a tourist destination is associated to the efforts of professionals like Rufina, who care about every dish offered at the hotel where she works as head of the kitchen. We thank her and her colleagues for their good work as hosts to the many visitors who are increasingly visiting and staying in the municipality of Arucas. .
