The Interpretation Centre of the Stoneworker shows the evolution and history of the stonework trade in Arucas. Preserving it, disseminating it and enhancing it.

In Arucas the workers of a stone quarry are called labrantes

At the beginning of 2024, the Cultural Association Salsipuedes, has the mission to manage and revitalize this center, through an agreement signed with the City Council of Arucas. Salsipuedes have as mission in this center to develop different activities such as conferences, talks, didactic classes, and much more, all related to the life and work of the local stonemasons and the stonemasonry.

The main objective of this museum space has been to create a meeting place and a place of culture, to honour, dignify and value in its proper measure and from a historical perspective, the memory of the stonemasons and stone artisans of Arucas, who have given name and prestige to the industrious City of Arucas and the district of La Goleta.

This Interpretation Centre, which is located on a stone quarry of grey stone, which has been mined and is now exhausted, has several exhibition rooms covering the origins of the quarry, the stone in the indigenous world, the stone quarry in the Canary Islands, the blue stone of Arucas and its history, quarries, the profession of the quarry and its working and safety conditions, professional specialities and categories, tools, materials and accessories. On display are traditional tools and pieces by sculptors from Arucas, who try to combine the craft with contemporary sculpture.

The building designed as the headquarters of the Labrante Interpretation Centre has been refurbished with funds from the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Arucas City Council.
